Thompsons Make  History

The Blue Devils are coached by Head Coach Blaze Thompson who is an alumni (’88), former Blue Devil football player and high school math teacher.  Blaze attended the University of Central Florida where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in Education and returned to Pahokee to teach and coach. Blaze was the Offensive Line Coach at Pahokee High for 12 years until taking over the Head Coaching position in the Spring of ‘07.

His father Don Thompson, who also played at Pahokee, was the Head Coach at Pahokee High for 10 years and was the first coach to bring a state football title to the school in 1989.  This year they made history by being the first father and son to coach and win at the State Championship game for the same team.

They also shared another special night where Don was initiated into the Palm Beach County Coaches Hall of Fame and that same night Blaze was named Palm Beach County’s High School Coach of the Year.  It was an incredible moment for both the Thompson Family and Blue Devil Football Family.

Blaze is also supported by is wife Stephanie, son Roman, daughter Maryn, mother Alice (’62) and in laws Jim and Mary Batista Douglas (’74).  Being a Blue Devil is a Family Tradition!

2007-2008 Season Information

The 2007 Two Time Undefeated State Champion Blue Devils were made up of sophomores, juniors and seniors who attend Pahokee Middle Senior High School.  The past two seasons the teams record has been 28-0, winning the State Championship for Class 2B Football.  We have been to the State Championship game 5 year’s straight, winning 4 out of the 5 times.  We are also Back to Back Muck Bowl Champions (’06 & ’07) and this year we made history winning for the first time in 20 years at Glades Central.

In July 2007 the Blue Devils started the season by winning the Adidas 7 on 7 National Championship in Long Beach, California. Our average margin of victory in the regular season was 33.1 points per game, only allowing our opponents to score 110 points collectively. This year 12 players were named to the Palm Beach Post All Area Team and also to the Sun Sentinel All Area Team.  We ended the season Nationally ranked 6th by USA Today and 10th by ESPN and Sports Illustrated.  We were also voted the Greatest All Time Team in Palm Beach County by the Palm Beach Post.

The Blue Devils hold State Championship titles for 1989, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007 and were the State Runner up’s in 2005.  The boys work hard all year for football season and it shows. This year we ended each game in prayer with the opposing team.  Not only do they know how to play football but they know the importance of sportsmanship and giving thanks to God for His blessings.  This year was full of many wonderful Blessings!

Pahokee is known for her Soil being her fortune.  Many people think that the only thing the soil produces is crops but the Blue Devils have shown that much more comes from the RICH muck.  Champions are born and cultivated in that muck.   There is a long line of Great Pahokee athletes such as L. Dobrow, H. Rosenberg, A., Early, H, Peacock, R. Jackson, A. Boldin, and E. Moore that we are following.
We Are from Pahokee, Florida!
